Presentation of the CNDPI

The National Press and Information Documentation Center (CNDPI) has the essential role of collecting, processing, preserving information in all its forms, publishing and disseminating the documentary product.

The CNDPI is involved in various projects of public institutions and contributes to the achievement of major objectives relating to communication and information. The CNDPI holds a rich heritage, both from a digital and historiographical point of view, which represents more than a century of Algerian history in texts and photos.

The center’s photo library contains nearly 1,730,000 negatives covering a very diverse range of themes, notably on Algerian prehistoric and historical remains; on monuments and historic sites; the social conditions of Algerians between 1945 and 1954, on portraits of personalities from the world of arts, letters, science and politics; on the most important stages of the war of national liberation; and also all the cultural, socio-economic and political activity of Algeria, for more than half a century. Concerned about the quality and efficiency of its services, the CNDPI has focused on actions that are imbued with market rules and new information and communication technologies for real-time management, documentary information at scrypto-audio-video and iconic levels. Given its role in the process of collection, processing, conservation, publishing and dissemination, the CNDPI relies essentially on operational and support structures, as well as on the know-how and experience acquired. since the date of its creation.

Day after day, the CNDPI improves and ensures quality public service missions and a positive image of Algeria, through the implementation of a development program which tends to:
– Develop your assets by enriching your funds.

– Modernize the processing of documentary information by introducing intelligent work instruments at all levels of the process of collecting, processing and disseminating information.
– Promote documentary information through the implementation of a rich program of events, exhibitions, training and exchanges.
– Develop institutional communication to promote the image of Algeria, both inside and outside the country.
Missions of the CNDPI

The National Center for Documentation and Information C.N.D.P.I has the following missions:
A) Regarding the collection, processing and conservation of documentation:

– To collect, process, preserve and disseminate any documentary or photographic information and include it in its archive funds and its database.
– To sort, order and digitize documents and photos in order to satisfy the demand of national and foreign institutions and press organs.
– To make documentary files available to researchers, teachers and other users.
– To participate in the implementation of the national policy on press documentation.
– To contribute to the implementation of an integrated, modern and scalable national information system.
– To develop, in relation to its purpose, documentary and information monitoring capabilities.

B) In terms of publishing and distribution:
– To produce albums and photographic collections on the political, economic and socio-cultural life of the country.
– To edit and publish press books, digests, photographic collections and thematic magazines, intended to make known to specialized audiences and the general public the significant facts of national history and the life of the nation.
C) In terms of communication and animation:
– To support public institutions in their institutional communication actions.
– To participate in any significant event in national life, through thematic exhibitions and other events.

D) Regarding the promotion of documentary information:
– To promote exchanges with similar national and foreign documentation centers.
– To provide documentary support, particularly in the field of photography, to information and communication professionals as well as researchers.
– To participate in the national training and development action for press documentation professionals.
– To take part in the process of digitizing archives and electronic document management.
– To organize a network of local services, to decentralize documentary activity and bring it closer to users.
